 Steven Hoch show / hide
StevenSteven co-founded Highmount Capital in 2002, and with Maarten van Hengel shares the general management of the firm. In addition, he has senior responsibility for a number of American and European client relationships. Prior to forming Highmount Capital, Steven was a Principal, member of the Executive Committee, and Head of Client Service for Pell Rudman Trust Company in Boston, where he helped pioneer the concept of a multi-family office and governance advice to substantial families. Steven is considered an expert on the strategic issues facing trans-Atlantic families. Prior to his association with Pell Rudman, Steven was a Senior Vice President at Bessemer Trust Company where he was responsible for European and US private clients and served as a member of both the Management and Strategic Task Force Committees. Steven began his career with Chemical Bank in NY and Zurich, working in commercial banking for ten years before transferring to private banking. He is a Director of Nestle S.A., a Trustee of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and a member of the Smithsonian National Board. Steven is a cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

MaartenMaarten van Hengel co-founded and serves as general manager of Highmount Capital. In addition, he has responsibility for a number of the firm's major client relationships. Prior to forming Highmount Capital, Maarten was a Managing Director at Trainer Wortham & Company, where he established the Family Wealth Management Team, and also developed alternative investment strategies for individuals and families. Prior to joining Trainer Wortham, Maarten was a Principal, Senior Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager at Bankers Trust Private Bank where he was a senior member of both the Domestic and Global Investment Strategy Committees. At Bankers Trust, he shared responsibility for directing asset allocation decisions on more than $15 billion of assets under management. Previously, Maarten was a senior relationship and product manager for Swiss Bank Investment & Private Bank. Additionally, he founded and was a partner of Clifford/Russell, an affiliate of the Frank Russell Company. Maarten was a partner and Senior Vice President of Carret and Company, while there he founded and was President of Carret Securities. He has been involved with various non-profits and is currently a Director of the Netherland America Foundation and on the board of Metallized Carbon Corporation. Maarten is a graduate of Wagner College.
 Berk Nowak, CFA, CAIA show / hide

Berk is a co-founder of Highmount Capital LLC and is primarily responsible for managing client relationships and overseeing the firm’s Open Architecture program.  Berk also is a member of the firm’s Investment Policy Committee that sets firmwide asset allocation guidelines and is trained to handle the softer issues of wealth management including family governance, life planning and the education of future generations.

Prior to founding Highmount, Mr. Nowak was a Vice President at Trainer Wortham & Company where he formed the Family Wealth Management Group.  His duties included managing equity and fixed income portfolios, selecting ‘best-of-breed’ managers and managing a Fund of Hedge Funds.  He was previously with the Bankers Trust Private Bank, where he managed portfolios for High Net Worth Individuals and served on the Domestic Investment Strategy Committee, which set asset allocation policy for over $15 billion of discretionary and trust account assets.

Mr. Nowak received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Bucknell University in 1992.  Berk has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations.  He is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA), the CFA Institute and serves on the Board of Boys Hope Girls Hope New York, a local chapter of a national organization helping children in need.

Berk lives in Darien, CT with his wife and three sons. In his spare time, he volunteers as a Coach & Board Member for both the Junior Football and Youth Baseball Leagues.

GeorgeGeorge Schlagmüller manages Highmount’s office in Zurich and joined the firm in 2010. Mr. Schlagmüller came to Highmount from Julius Bär Private Bank where he managed a prominent team and worked with private clients since 2000. Prior to Julius Bär, he was a portfolio manager and relationship manager at UBS. He started his career in 1987 at Julius Bär, working in the securities trading department until he became a trader for European Equities and later worked as a sales-trader at Goldman Sachs. Mr. Schlagmüller is a holder of the federal diploma financial analyst and portfolio manager, CIIA. He received an MBA degree from the University of Geneva in 2004 and an executive MBA of Carnegie Mellon University in 2007.

DominiqueDominique van Hilten manages Highmount’s office in Amsterdam. She joined Highmount Capital in 2008 from Theodoor Gilissen Bankiers where she previously served as a Senior Private Banker. While at Theodoor Gilissen, she distinguished herself as a Private Wealth Manager. Ms. van Hilten began her career at Theodoor Gilissen Bankiers in 1993. She received an MBA in International Wealth Management from the University of Geneva and an executive MBA from Carnegie Mellon in the United States. Ms. van Hilten is registered by the Dutch Securities Institute as a discretionary and advisory asset manager.
 Thomas von Rohr show / hide

ThomasThomas von Rohr manages Highmount’s office in Zurich and joined the firm in 2010. Mr. von Rohr came to Highmount from Julius Bär Private Bank where he was a relationship manager since 2005. He previously worked at Julius Bär as an equity analyst in Zurich and New York, and started in 1999 as an assistant to the head of Private Banking in Europe. He started his career in 1989 with an apprenticeship in at the regional bank Sparkasse Gaeu and subsequently worked as a securities trader at Banca Commerciale Italiana. Mr. von Rohr studied Economics and Business Administration with specialization in accounting/controlling at the University of applied Sciences in Olten. He completed the executive program of the Swiss Banking School, is a Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) and a holder of the federal diploma financial analyst and portfolio manager.

BrainBrian Walsh is responsible for managing client relationships and oversees the fiduciary operations of Highmount Fiduciary LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Highmount Capital. He also manages the Highmount Portfolio Operations Team. Prior to joining Highmount Capital, Brian was a Senior Vice President and Senior Client Relationship Manager at Atlantic Trust Pell Rudman, where he managed a team of client service professionals and worked with many of the firm's "macro family clients". Brian advised individuals and families on all aspects of wealth management and worked closely with clients' tax and legal advisors to ensure a coordinated delivery of services. He also served as a member of the Trust Investment and Trust Discretionary Committees. Prior to Atlantic Trust Pell Rudman, Brian was an Investment Officer and Relationship Manager at Mellon Private Asset Management. Brian received his BA degree from Saint Michael's College and his MBA from Suffolk University. Brian has served on a number of boards in his community, and currently serves as an overseer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, a member of the Jordan Boys and Girls Club’s Advisory Board and a Trustee of Malden Catholic High School.  Brian also is a member of the Professional Advisors Committee at The Boston Foundation.
